Introduction

Flag Officer School (FOS) is the third College installment within the Leadership Track at STARFLEET Academy. FOS will further expand the student's knowledge of STARFLEET as an organization, with an emphasis on the commissioned flag officer. The concept of FOS is to focus on how STARFLEET is configured as an organization, the fundamentals of leadership, and what it means to command. Officer Command College (OCC) is a prerequisite for Flag Officer School.

FOS uses the STARFLEET Membership Handbook, as well as several other STARFLEET resources which are linked to the bottom of this page.

Important: It is vital that you make sure you keep a copy of your results and certificate as proof of completing FOS. Do not rely on the STARFLEET Database or anyone else to verify that you have completed FOS or any other Academy course. The burden of proof is upon you, the student.

Course Tuition

Course is free via email. For postal mail, a SASE (Self Addressed Stamped Envelope) and one (1) loose First-Class postage stamp is required.

Curriculum

100-Level Exams

FOS-101 - Introduction to Flag Officer School

In this course, students will learn about the expanded aspects of STARFLEET no covered in OTS and/or OCC. This exam consists of fifty (50) Multiple Choice questions, forty (40) True/False questions, twenty-five (25) Short Answer questions, and one (1) Short Essay.

200-Level Exams

The 200-level essay exams provide the student an opportunity to expand their knowledge of STARFLEET on the three basic levels of the organization: Chapter, Region, and Fleet.

300-Level Exams

The 300-level essay exams allow the student to pick specific "Positions of Notable Responsibility" within STARFLEET. When the student requests their respective course, he/she will notify the Director of their essay topic; this topic would be a problem, real or fictional, that would need to be resolved within the "Position of Notable Responsibility" chosen. All available resources in STARFLEET are at the student's disposal. Where no references exist, the student will use logic and common sense to solve the problem. All references used need to be sited within the essay.

Essays will be written from the perspective of the student and will have that student assuming the respective position of responsibility in SFI. They are to be a minimum of two (2) full pages (500 words) covering your problem and the solution. Each page will be no more than one (1) inch (2.5 cm) on the top/bottom and the left/right for the margins, the font should be a normal type (Arial, Calibri, Times New Roman, etc.) with a point setting no larger than twelve (12), and line spacing should not be any larger than double-space.

There is a ten (10) week time-limit on all exams within Flag Officer School as a whole. Students may submit exams in typed pages when using regular postal mail, or they may be submitted electronically in Microsoft Word or PDF format.
