Introduction

The College of Survival Studies consists of various Schools which demonstrate basic survial skills, as well as various environments and situations in which your survival may be in jeopardy. Exams are based on both real-life and Trek-related situations and scenarios.

Important: It is vital that you make sure you keep a copy of your results and certificates as proof of completing COSS courses. Do not rely on the STARFLEET Database or anyone else to verify that you have completed COSS courses. The burden of proof is upon you, the student.

Course Tuition

Course is free via email. For postal mail, a SASE (Self Addressed Stamped Envelope) and two (2) loose First-Class postage stamps are required.


Curriculum

Survival Training School (TSS)
These courses are designed to provide you with basic survival information, in a question and answer format. All courses have a manual specific to that course. Students are requested to complete all of the Survival Training Courses before they can request for more courses from this college. Completion of all courses will allow the student to request the Basic Survival Entry Project.

Survival Extreme Conditions School (ESS)
Students are required to complete TSS102 - Advanced Survival Training, through the Survival Training School, prior to requesting any course from this School. These courses cover the wide range of conditions in which you may be required to survive. Each course is presented in the question and answer format. All courses have a manual specific to that course. Students may choose any of the offerings from this school. Completion of all courses will grant the student the title of Survival Specialist.

Survival Mapping School (MSS)
Students are required to complete TSS102 - Advanced Survival Training, through the Survival Training School, prior to requesting any course from this School. This School consists of Training and certification courses that cover aspects of map making and their use. Each course is presented in the question and answer format. All courses have a manual specific to that course. Courses should be taken in order as each consecutive course builds on the one before it. Completions of all mapping training courses will grant the student the title of STARFLEET Mapping Specialist.

Survival Mapping Certification Courses
The Survival Mapping School also includes a certification program which will challenge the student to use the information you acquired in mapping training.

MSS-201 - Mapping Specialist
This course will have the student plotting a course in a round the world trip, including the use of azimuths and bearings.

MSS-301 - Mapping Advanced Specialist
This course will require the student to create a map of the area within a two (2) mile radius of their home, including changes in elevation, proper map symbols, and use of scales.

Emergency Preparedness School (PSS)
Students are required to complete TSS102 - Advanced Survival Training, through the Survival Training School, prior to requesting any course from this School. This School consists of Training and certification courses that cover aspects of emergency preparedness. Each course is presented in the question and answer format. All courses have a manual specific to that course. Courses should be taken in order as each consecutive course builds on the one before it. Completions of all emergency preparedness training courses will grant the student the title of STARFLEET Emergency Preparedness Specialist.

Survival Strategies School (SSS)
Students are required to complete TSS102 - Advanced Survival Training, through the Survival Training School, prior to requesting any course from this School. This School consists of a series of six (6) courses that require the student to use specific Star Trek episodes or material as designated for each level. The student will need to have access to specific episodes for viewing. The Survival in the Start Trek Universe courses (SSS-101 and SSS-102) will require the use of information available on the Internet, in the Star Trek Encyclopedia, or the published Starfleet Survival Guide by David Mack, regarding Star Trek related survival equipment.
